Celebrating Portugal’s 1974 revolution
Published Apr 27, 2006 10:03 AM
Immigrants in Portugal
participate in a demonstration of tens of thousands of people celebrating the
anniversary of the April 25, 1974, revolution. At that time, prolonged
liberation struggles in its African colonies had brought the fascist
dictatorship in Portugal to its knees. A rebellion in the armed forces
ended more than 40 years of fascist rule and opened the door to a
worker upsurge that came close to taking power.
