San Francisco: ‘Stop anti-immigrant bills!’

Published Apr 27, 2006 9:18 AM

Thousands of people marched through the Mission District of San Francisco to the Federal Building on April 23 as part of a Bay Area Day of Action for Immigrant Rights. Organized by immigrant groups and their supporters, the protest was called to “Stop anti-immigrant bills in Congress.” Signs throughout the crowd called for the legalization of all immigrants.

The Bay Area Day of Action was organized by the Bay Area Immigrant Rights Coalition, Deporten a la Migra (Deport the Migra) coalition and many other progressive organizations from the area. A larger protest is being planned for May 1, a national day of boycott and protest for the rights of immigrants. The recently formed May 1 Coalition, comprised of immigrant rights groups, unions, churches, student groups and community organizations from Northern California, has called for a march and rally on May 1 beginning at 11 a.m. at Embarcadero and Market streets and ending at the Civic Center Plaza. For more information, contact the May 1 Coalition at (510) 776-8020.
