NEW YORK

Rally for Leonard Peltier

Published Feb 5, 2006 8:11 PM

Leonard Peltier

Supporters of U.S.-held political prisoner Leonard Peltier will rally in New York City on Feb. 6 to demand his release.

Peltier has been behind bars for 30 years, despite evidence that the U.S. government withheld, fabricated and coerced the “evidence” it needed to convict this member of the American Indian Move ment. The demand to free Peltier has been voiced by millions of people all over the world.

A hearing on the legality of Peltier’s sentence will be held on Feb. 13.

On Feb. 6, activists will rally from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on the east side of Man hattan’s Union Square park at 15th St.—the site of a plaque honoring Indi genous settlements on the island. Organizers say that the rally and speakout on the 30th anniversary of Peltier’s imprisonment will “mark the launch of a series of actions this year as we struggle to free Leonard Peltier.”

For more information about Peltier’s case and how you can become part of this struggle, visit www.freepeltier.org or call (212) 633-6646.
