Houston protesters says ‘No justice! No peace!’

Published Aug 4, 2006 11:59 PM

Over 500 Palestinians, other Arab people and their supporters rallied across from the federal courthouse in downtown Houston on July 28 to demand an end to Israeli aggression in both Lebanon and Palestine.

Demonstrators waved dozens and dozens of Palestinian and Lebanese flags. Others draped them over their shoulders. Three “bodies” were wrapped in what was made to look like bloody flags, to represent the victims of the U.S./Israeli bombing.

The passionate crowd chanted, “U.S. generosity, Israeli monstrosity!” and “All the Hitlers are the same! The only difference is their name!” as people gathered. Then Fady Quaddura welcomed everyone and introduced the many Palestinian and other Arab speakers.

Also invited to speak were several U.S. activists, including Gloria Rubac from the International Action Center, who drew loud cheering when she said that all people in the U.S. could have healthcare and New Orleans could be rebuilt if the U.S. would stop arming Israel. An announcement was made for a fundraiser for the people of Lebanon to be held the next day at the Arab American Cultural and Community Center.
