UMass students lead the way
Published Mar 30, 2005 10:43 AM
Valerie Louis (at podium), newly elected Student Government Association
trustee at the University of Mas sachusetts at Amherst, spoke on a March 24
panel of campus community members against an administration proposal to
restructure independent registered student organizations. A fight-back campaign
led by the SGA, the progressive Take Back UMass Coalition
(www.takebackumass.com) and com munity organizations, is under way. The goal is
to beat back this anti-union, anti-student, racist attack—which, if
successful, would place student orga ni zations under administration control,
destroying over 30 years of student autonomy on campus won as a result of
massive student rebellions in the late 1960s and early
1970s.
