The National Network on Cuba met in Washington, D.C., for its annual meeting Dec. 7-8. Since 1992 the NNOC has served as an umbrella for a broad variety of U.S.-Cuba solidarity organizations, and many pressing issues were discussed there.
The meeting was addressed by representatives of the Cuban Interests Section (Havana’s de facto embassy in D.C., under the technical auspices of Switzerland) on issues such as the economic updating of Cuban socialism and the latest developments in the struggle to free the heroic antiterroristas, the Cuban Five, from the bloody grip of the U.S. empire.
The meeting emphasized the need to build several important upcoming events, especially the 2014 Five Days for the Five in D.C. — an important week of actions and events from June 4 to 11 — and the Third World Cuba Solidarity Conference hosted by the Cuba Institute for Friendship with the Peoples, Oct. 27-31 in Havana. The NNOC delegates also conveyed their support for the Peoples’ Tribunal for the Cuban Five being held in London in March. The NNOC.info web site was introduced as well as a new social media interface.
