Activists, former prisoners and attorneys at the “Re-Examining the Lucasville Uprising Conference” at Columbus [Ohio] State Community College on the April 19 through 21 weekend learned the facts of the 1993 prison uprising and the subsequent frame-ups of prisoner spokespersons. A goal of the conference: strengthen the campaign to free the leaders of the uprising.
Prisoners in the supermax prison, the Ohio State Penitentiary, went on a hunger strike on April 11, the 20th anniversary of the uprising, demanding access to face-to-face interviews with the media. Two of those prisoners, Siddique Abdullah Hasan and Greg Curry, are currently in their third week without food.
