February 24, Sunday all day, gather at 9 a.m. at 2630 16th St. NW, Washington, D.C., and stay until the right wing leaves. Feb. 24, 1996, is the day Cuba in self-defense — after many warnings — shot down two planes that crossed into Cuban airspace. Gerardo Hernandez, one of the Cuban 5, was framed for being an accomplice to this shootdown, and is serving two life terms plus 15 years as a direct result of this charge — which even the prosecutors claimed could not be proven. The solidarity movement in D.C. is mobilizing to support Cuba and the Cuban 5 outside the Cuban Interests Section (embassy) to counter a planned right-wing demonstration on that day.
