Philadelphia emergency protest defends Iran

Philadelphia, April 7, 2026.

Over 200 people turned out Aug. 7 in Philadelphia outside City Hall for an emergency demonstration against Trump’s war threats on Iran. When the first large sign that read “No War on Iran, No Genocide in Gaza” was held up for passing cars to see, drivers immediately began to honk their horns and show fists-up support.

The honking of horns continued throughout the entire rally, and dozens of people who happened to be passing by stopped to express support for the march, with many joining in. There was high energy throughout the event that came together in just a few hours.

Joe Piette with Workers World Party opened the rally, inviting people to speak out, and a dozen did, including Black youth who expressed their hopes for a world of peace, not war. Midway through the rally, news was announced that Trump and Iran had agreed to a two-week halt to the war, which rally participants recognized as a victory for Iran. 

Several speakers addressed the ongoing dangers of U.S. imperialism, not just in West Asia but around the world, and the importance of supporting resistance struggles. A march followed that ended at the corporate headquarters of weapons manufacturer Day & Zimmerman.
