On International Women’s Day, Workers World says: Stop all U.S. wars!

The essence of International Working Women’s Day is solidarity, as propounded by its European socialist founders in 1910. In the spirit of this special day, March 8, Workers World newspaper hails women workers, oppressed people and those of many genders in the U.S. and worldwide from the Global South to the Global North, especially those under the gun of imperialist war, occupation, sanctions and exploitation — and those who resist.

IWWD’s history resonates with workers’ and anti-imperialist struggles, beginning with demonstrations against the looming World War I in 1911. This year, WW hails anti-imperialist resistance forces and their global allies. 

WW honors the women and girls of Iran, Lebanon and elsewhere in West Asia, living under U.S.-Israeli bombing, and our Palestinian sisters who remain strong against the siege of Gaza and the occupied West Bank. WW supports Cuban and Venezuelan women against Washington’s attacks and threats. Our articles express solidarity with our sisters and siblings in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean and elsewhere, not only in March but throughout the year.

WW condemns the Trump administration’s racist, xenophobic Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE) pogroms against women migrants, their family members and supporters. We denounce the firings of Black women and other federal workers and Washington’s slash-and-burn cutbacks in essential government programs, including Medicaid and SNAP (food stamps), impacting millions of women, low-income, Black and other people of color, disabled and elderly individuals.

We praise reproductive justice activists fighting the ultraright’s misogynist anti-abortion campaign, sanctioned by the unelected Supreme Court, despite public opinion. We join the calls for justice by the courageous survivors of Jeffrey Epstein’s brutality.

WW honors women organizers in the historic Civil Rights, Black Liberation and Puerto Rican independence movements, anti-imperialists, socialists, communists and fighters for rights for women, workers, immigrants, prisoners and Indigenous, Latine, Asian, Arab, LGBTQIA2S+ and disabled people. 

Socialists have long recognized the only way to fundamentally improve women’s lives is through the independent, anti-capitalist struggle. WW espouses this view and boldly states that socialism is the only system that can ensure real liberation for women, workers and oppressed people here and worldwide.

Workers.org contains news and analyses of global and U.S. struggles, bulletins from national liberation movements and articles translated by our staff. Mundo Obrero publishes articles in Spanish. Our writer-organizers report on anti-capitalist struggles and people’s movements against racism and war and for the rights of women, migrants, other oppressed peoples, workers, prisoners, LGTBQIA2S+ and disabled individuals. Prisoners receive free print issues. The website is a resource for political activists. 

While WW’s staff are volunteers, the 12 annually printed issues and workers.org incur expenses. Although many online publications require payments to read their articles, WW does not. Our articles are free to all readers.
