End all forms of the criminal U.S. blockade of Cuba!

Workers World Party joins with the Cuban government and its people in condemning in the strongest possible terms the U.S. government’s threat to increase tariffs on any country that delivers oil to Cuba. 

This new policy to blockade the delivery of any fuel to Cuba is nothing but a blatant attempt by the U.S. to strangle the Cuban economy and cause maximum human suffering, which has been the goal of the U.S. since the blockade began over six decades ago, as evidenced by a 1961 U.S. State Department memo stating exactly that.

The Cuban people for more than 60 years have faced the longest economic blockade ever imposed on a country. Now, this latest escalation by the U.S. government, which attempts to deny any fuel to the Cuban people, intends to cause further suffering by causing the collapse of medical services, electricity, transportation and food distribution, which rely on fuel to function.

President Miguel Diaz-Canel has condemned this criminal policy of the U.S. that seeks to suffocate Cuba, asking, “What right does a nation have to prevent a country from receiving fuel?” Cuba must be free to trade with other countries, and other countries must be free to trade with Cuba free from coercion, sanctions and military threats.

Cuba has made clear to the world that it will not surrender to these new threats and will continue to resist all efforts to destroy its economy. And the world will stand in solidarity with Cuba in fighting these attacks.

We therefore demand an immediate end to this act of aggression against the Cuban people. 

End the criminal blockade now.
