Philly MLK march: Fight racism and imperialism

About 75 activists marched from Malcolm X Park to Clark Park in West Philadelphia on Jan. 19 in the militant anti-racist and anti-imperialist tradition of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The theme of the event was “Honor Dr. King! Fight racism at home, fight imperialism abroad.”

Despite the cold and a heavy police presence, they held the rally and march in King’s honor focused on the racist and imperialist system which he fought against and which killed him. Speakers and chants addressed the racist killings of Black people by police, ethnic cleansing of immigrant communities, genocide in Palestine and Sudan, the history of CIA assassinations in Congo and elsewhere, and the current threat of war against Venezuela.

Prior to the march, on Jan 17, progressive and revolutionary organizations in Philadelphia held a collective education session on the life and legacy of Dr. King by viewing Black Power Mixtape followed by a rich discussion.
