Starbucks strike grows

Since Starbucks’ Red Cup Day — Nov. 13, its busiest day of the year — many workers from Starbucks Workers United have continued and expanded their strike. Workers have shut down their store in Seattle for over two weeks as the struggle continues. They are making plans to continue the strike into December.

The strike has grown every week since Nov. 13. Currently 2,000 workers at 120 stores in 85 locations have walked out.

Starbucks and its wealthy stockholders have tried everything over the last three years to break the workers’ resolve for a good contract victory. But the workers have stood firm and fought off the bosses’ attacks, which have included store closures, cutting workers hours, harassment and hundreds of Unfair Labor Practices that resulted in charges with the National Labor Relations Board. 

The workers’ spirits are high, and they like the Workers World newspaper coverage.
