Philly REAL protest blocks I-676

The Philly REAL Justice Coalition and the Black & Brown Workers Collective led a demonstration in the streets of Philadelphia on July 6, in outrage at yet another Black man being killed by cops, this time in Baton Rouge, La.  Carrying out their “no business as usual” event-page post by marching through busy downtown shopping district streets, protesters eventually surprised police officials by occupying the on and off ramps of the I-676 expressway.  Seasoned activists and first-time demonstrators spoke out against police terror for an hour before cops began threatening arrests.  Twelve people sat down in a line across the on-ramp and refused to leave.  Cops seized each protester, tied their wrists behind their backs with zip ties and took them to the Ninth Precinct.  Fifty supporters waited outside the police station until those arrested were finally released.  The arrestees were each given citations with fines of $300.
