Anti-racists drown out immigrant bashers

In an action important for international solidarity, a strong showing of 150 anti-racist protesters drowned out a much smaller rally of anti-immigrant racists in Olympia, Wash., on Nov. 20.

The racist rally was called after Gov. Jay Inslee declared that Washington state would welcome refugees from Syria. “ACT for America,” a hate group, organized the small rally. Their rhetoric encourages hate crimes at home and imperialist war abroad.

The anti-racists overwhelmed the hate speech, chanting, “Say it loud! Say it clear! Refugees are welcome here!” The anti-racist demonstration was made up of community and political activists carrying signs saying, “Welcome Refugees!”
