MILWAUKEE

March against pro-rich mayors

Published Apr 5, 2012 7:49 PM

Outside of mayors’ fundraiser, March 28.

At the Italian Community Center in Milwaukee, dozens of protesters confronted the Chicago mayor, Rahm Emanuel, on March 28 as he attended a fundraising dinner for Tom Barrett, mayor of Milwaukee. As Emanuel, Barrett and their 1% bosses paid $400 to $2,500 per dinner, Occupy Milwaukee, Occupy The Hood and numerous other progressive organizations militantly picketed, spoke out and confronted the cops who were protecting the rich inside. Since Emanuel is presently engaged in closing clinics in Chicago, attacking unions and spending millions for the NATO Chicago meeting in May, rather than providing funding for growing human needs, a strong contingent of Chicago activists joined the Milwaukee protest, including members of the Chicago Anti-Eviction Campaign, the Chicago Mental Health Movement, the Illinois Nurses Association and Southside Together Organizing for Power.
