PHILADELPHIA

Homeless who died honored at memorial

Published Jan 4, 2012 8:41 PM

More than 122 deaths of homeless people were recorded on the streets of Philadelphia in the last year. Each one of their names, including two John Does, was solemnly read at an outdoor memorial on a rainy Dec. 21 evening. Activists also held aloft signs bearing many of the names. The commemoration featured speakers, poets and music, with an overall theme of a renewed commitment to end homelessness.
