Protests at International AIDS Conference 2012

International AIDS Conference 2012Twenty thousand people from 200 different countries attended the XIX International AIDS Conference 2012 in Washington, DC., July 22-27. In the U.S., a ban preventing people who are HIV positive from entering the country was lifted in 2010. Demonstrations broke out throughout the conference, including the first day, when 10,000 took to the streets chanting: “Pharma’s greed kills! AIDS drugs for all!” New approaches to preventing and treating HIV exist only on paper if the services are not affordable and available.
