Former political prisoner speaks

Robert Wilkerson, right, a member of the Angola 3 who spent 29 years in solitary confinement at Louisiana State Penitentiary, was a featured speaker at a May 25 forum entitled “Racism & the Criminal Justice System” at Fordham University in the Bronx, N.Y. Wilkerson, along with Angola 3 members Herman Wallace and Albert Woodfox, organized a prison chapter of the Black Panther Party. All three were serving long prison terms when they were falsely accused of murdering a white prison guard. Wallace and Woodfox remain in prison. Wilkerson was released in February 2001. The forum was spon sor ed by the People’s Institute for Survival & Beyond and the New York Anti-Racist Alliance.
