The streets
belong to the people
While known war criminals will be commandeering the air
waves from the Republican National Convention, protest groups
have been told by federal and state judges that they can't
rally in Central Park. And the largest armed force ever to
guard a political gathering has been assembled in New York.
First a federal judge turned down International ANSWER's
lawsuit supporting a rally of Arab Americans in the park on
Aug. 28. Then a state judge did the same with United for Peace
and Justice's request to rally in the park after the Aug. 29
march past Madison Square Garden.
Free speech is being throttled by a desperate minority whose
hands drip oil and blood. But from Najaf to Cara cas to New
York, the people are rising. Courts, cops and Cobras cannot
turn back the people's movement. It is creative and will find
ways not to be silenced.
If you're reading this from one of the many protests
scheduled during the RNC, congratulations! You have stood up
against a tidal wave of intimidation meant to keep you
away.
Stand firm in your convictions! You have the right to be
here. And you speak for the anti-war majority of the people in
this country.
