As bigots protest
Hundreds support LGBT students
The first day of school can be nervewracking.
For the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students who
attend the Harvey Milk School in New York City, a right-wing
demonstration threatened to make the day even harder. However,
250 supporters--outnumbering the right wingers--cheered,
encouraged and defended the students as they entered in the
morning, and again as the students left classes in the
afternoon. The demonstration was called by FIERCE, an LGBT
youth of color group, and DITCH, a new lesbian group.
