LOS ANGELES
Assi workers still struggling
Five hundred workers and activists picketed,
marched and rallied Aug. 1 to mark the one-year point in the
boycott of Assi Market in Los Angeles.
The Assi workers, mostly immigrants, are demanding that
their boss negotiate with their union to improve working
conditions and pay.The Immigrant Workers Union is also calling
on Daniel Rhee, the owner f Assi Market, to reinstate the 60
employees he fired in an attempt to scare off the workers who
had been organizing on their own behalf.
