IAC calls protest when guvs meet
By Michael

Providence, R.I.
The Rhode Island International Action Center is organizing
a speak-out on Aug. 5 at Waterplace Park in downtown
Providence to oppose the secret, anti-worker wheelings and
dealings of the annual U.S. governors' meeting to take place
this year in Providence on Aug. 4-7.
The meeting will bring virtually every U.S. governor to
the state, along with thousands of political aides. However,
these corporate flunkeys will be counterbalanced by many
protesters who oppose their reactionary national polices.
President George Bush--President Death--may address the
conference, adding further fuel to protesters' ire.
The IAC speak-out will give workers and other oppressed
people a chance to voice their anger about how the government
and the ruling class it represents exploit and abuse
them.
Issues to be raised include the need for a living wage, an
end to the racist death penalty and police brutality, the
freeing of Mumia Abu-Jamal, and billions of dollars for
housing, education and other human needs instead of a missile
shield.
People interested in helping organize events related to
the governors' meeting can call the Rhode Island IAC at (401)
726-2922.
