Bush: We charge you with school apartheid
More than 2,000 people marched from Texas Southern
University to the University of Houston on March 10 to demand
equal funding for historically Black public universities like
TSU and Prairie View A & M. The Rev. Jesse Jackson joined
with TSU and PVU students to lead the march.
Jackson said annual state spending at U of H is $11,000 per
student, while at neighboring TSU it spends just $8,000 per
student. Marchers hoisted colorful homemade signs reading "One
set of rules." They chanted, "George W. Bush, you can't hide,
we charge you with school apartheid!"
