BUFFALO & NIAGARA FALLS
‘Stop racist executions!’ heard at Pride
events
In Buffalo, N.Y., a week of lesbian, gay, bisexual and
trans events culminated on June 17 in the biggest Buffalo
Pride March this city has ever seen. Spectators cheered and
raised fists as the Workers World contingent passed. Signs in
the contingent included, "Stonewall means fight back," "End
the racist death penalty," and "Stop the executions of Shaka
Sankofa and Mumia Abu-Jamal."
Earlier in the week Leslie Feinberg, lesbian transgender
activist and author, spoke at a meeting of the Niagara County
Coalition for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Health
and Wellness, in Niagara Falls. Participants discussed the
importance of coming together in unity to fight all forms of
oppression and noted the growing momentum of the struggle to
end the death penalty and to free Sankofa and Abu-Jamal.
