Cuba says: 'Try Solana for war crimes'
Cuba's new foreign minister, Felipe Perez Roque, said on
June 1 that NATO Secretary General Javier Solana should be
tried as a war criminal.
"The war against Yugoslavia is true genocide, and genocide
must be punished," Perez said from Havana. He also called on
the international community to try Solana "as a representative
for all those guilty of war crimes" in the war against
Yugoslavia. He also called for an end to the bombing and a
political solution to the conflict.
Solana is from Spain, which has traditionally been closer to
Cuba than other European countries and has commercial interests
there. This did not prevent the Cuban official from speaking
his mind, however.
