Solidarity from the Socialist Front of Puerto Rico

TO WWP:

On behalf of the working class of Puerto Rico and its vanguard organizations, the Socialist Front extends its fraternal and revolutionary greetings to the Workers World Party's Conference held in New York Nov. 6.

The struggle of the working class and of the oppressed nationalities in the United States is of major importance, not only to the people of your country but to the proletariat of the entire world.

The United States is the key dominant economic and political power in the world. It is the headquarters of world imperialism and reaction, and the main obstacle in the world in the struggle for socialism.

From this world perspective, the success of the struggle of the working people of the United States--for economic and social justice, for equality and against racism, bigotry and national oppression, for the equality of women and gay people, against the marginalization of foreign-born workers, against police brutality directed at young people, for the rights of children to a decent public education, in defense of tenants against greedy landlords, for the freedom of political prisoners, for the self determination of oppressed people everywhere, and against imperialist war and intervention, in one phrase, "the struggle of labor to overthrow capital"--is not only of significance to the people of the U.S. but is of paramount importance to the world proletariat, in its struggle for world socialism.

We in the Socialist Front are aware of the many contributions made by the Workers World Party over its 40 years of unrelenting struggle on behalf of working and oppressed people, and wholeheartedly wish the Workers World Party complete success in its endeavors on behalf of the working class and for socialism.

Currently, the main struggle in our country is to get the United States Navy out of the island of Vieques and against U.S. militarization. As all of you know, Puerto Rico has been a U.S. colony for 100 years. Thirteen percent of our island nation is occupied by U.S. military bases. At the moment, all of our energies are currently concentrated in these efforts: to get the U.S. out of Puerto Rico, and we are aware of the assistance that the Workers World Party and other progressive forces within the United States are making on our behalf.

Long live the solidarity between all working and oppressed people! Success in the struggle for socialism!

Jorge Farinacci, spokesperson for the Socialist Front
