'Millions for Mumia' leaders denounce N.Y. cop threats
On Feb. 23, Millions for Mumia Mobilization organizers
learned that the New York Patrolmen's Benevolent Association
(PBA) is planning a counter-demonstration outside the Feb. 26
Town Hall rally for Mumia Abu-Jamal.
At a Feb. 24 press conference, Ossie Davis, the Rev. Calvin
Butts and other "Millions for Mumia" leaders denounced the
police threats. Monica Moorehead, a national coordinator of the
April 24 demonstration in Philadelphia, said, "We are not going
to be intimidated by the PBA or any other police agency. We are
going to carrying out a strong program at Town Hall to demand
no execution and a new trial for Mumia.
"It's an outrage that the PBA would plan this
counter-demonstration at a time when the entire city is enraged
over the brutal police slaying of Amadou Diallo," she said.
"The planned PBA counter-demonstration is a pro-police
brutality demonstration."
Other speakers included Center for Constitutional Rights
Executive Director Ron Daniels, Sally O'Brien, Ossie Davis,
Safiya Bukhari of the Free Mumia Coalition, and attorney
Leonard Wein glass.
