NATO POISED TO ESCALATE
Anti-war forces prepare to resist

Pentagon propaganda has been aimed first and foremost at
confusing the population and dividing and demoralizing the
anti-war movement--the only force that has the potential to
stop the generals' relentless aggression against the small
country of Yugoslavia.
As the bombings intensify and talk of a ground war grows
louder, is the Pentagon winning the ideological battle--or are
the anti-war forces uniting and growing?
"The most important experience people are getting from
building this June 5 national anti-war demonstration at the
Pentagon, as well as in San Francisco, Toronto and other cities
around the world," says Sara Flounders, "is how important it is
to take to the streets in even louder, angrier and larger

Flounders is co-director of the International Action Center,
which initiated the June 5 march and joined with others in the
Emergency Mobilization to Stop the War.
The IAC has been the leading force in this struggle. Within
hours after U.S./NATO planes first dropped their bombs on the
peoples of Yugoslavia, IAC-organized protests brought thousands
into the streets in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles,
Boston, Chicago and cities across the country.
Flounders said the ranks of the anti-war movement are the
key to winning new forces: "Everyone who comes to June 5 must
become an organizer to involve hundreds more."
To facilitate that goal, the Emergency Mobilization is
"preparing organizers' kits for June 5 march participants. The
packets will include leaflets, press releases, a fact sheet and
information on how to most effectively organize," she
explained.
Nationwide protests on July 17
IAC co-director Brian Becker confirms that the anti-war
momentum in this country is still building steam. "We are
calling for nationally coordinated protests on July 17. On that
day we will see tens of thousands--and hopefully hundreds of
thousands--in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago,
Boston, Atlanta and other regional centers."
Becker added, "Now that the U.S. is planning for a
ground
