French officers killed while commanding KLA
The French press agency AFP reported from Belgrade May 18
that three French army officers commanding a "Kosovo Liberation
Army" unit had been killed in a clash with Yugoslav forces on
the border with Albania on May 16, according to the daily paper
Vecernje Novosti. The officers, from French paratroop units,
were in charge of a KLA group trying to infiltrate into the
southern Serbian province, the newspaper said. The officers,
wearing French uniforms with French army insignia, were
instructors coordinating KLA operations.
Vecernje Novosti said the French military presence in
Albania had been stepped up recently. NATO denies that it is
actively cooperating with the KLA in the war against
Yugoslavia, despite much evidence to the contrary.
