Iraq's statement on Yugoslavia
Iraq's Foreign Minister Mohammad Said al-Sahhaf March 26
called NATO air strikes on Yugoslavia "aggression" and called
for them to be ended.
"Iraq denounces the aggression carried out against the
Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and declares itself in
solidarity with Yugoslavia," the minister said.
"Iraq supports Yugoslavia's right to defend itself and
protect its sovereignty and its territorial integrity," he
said, quoted by the official INA new agency.
The ruling Baath Party's Ath-Thawra newspaper on March 25
said Yugoslavia has stood up to the threat of U.S.-led military
force despite NATO's superior technology thanks to the example
set by Iraq.
Iraq on March 24 had said NATO was a "tool" of the United
States. The action has "no international legitimacy," a
government spokesperson said.
