Hackwell photos shown in Chicago
Workers World readers are familiar with Bill Hackwell's
vivid shots of street protests and his moving portraits of
people in struggle from Chiapas, Mexico, to Iraq. His
photographs have inspired prison artists and have been
transformed into banner art.
Now a show containing 40 pieces of his work has opened at
the National Vietnam Veterans Art Museum
in Chicago. The solo show opened Jan. 15 and runs for a
month.
Called Common Expressions of Humanity, it covers 30 years of
social documentary photography.
The museum also houses a permanent collection of art on the
Vietnam War by over 100 Vietnam veterans. The museum is at 1801
S. Indiana Ave., Chicago, IL 60616. Call (312) 326-0270.
