Supporters of Puerto Rican political prisoners honored
The U.S. government keeps 16 Puerto Rican political
prisoners in jail, but the campaign to free the independence
fighters continues to grow. Its breadth could be seen Aug. 6
when the group Pro-Libertad presented dozens of awards to
elected officials, political activists and religious, cultural
and media figures for the work they have done in the
campaign.
The certificates of appreciation were passed out in
ceremonies at the Martin Luther King Center in New York in
front of an enthusiastic audience. Workers World Party received
an award, which was accepted by Carlos Rovira, for its
contributions to recent mobilizations.
