Drop charges against Tucson anti-war activists
By Gery Armsby
Tucson, Ariz.
On July 23, a Pima County judge denied a motion
that would have dismissed charges against six anti-war
activists arrested for trespassing on Air Force property.
The six attempted to perform a citizen's inspection of
Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Arizona on March 1 to expose
the United States' illegal weapons and intent to commit war
crimes.
Davis-Monthan AFB is the training site of the A-10 anti-tank
aircraft which was responsible for the deployment of huge
amounts of radioactive ammunition in the 1991 Gulf War.
Jurisdiction questions have tied up the fate of the six
activists in court for two months. Now the defendants must
appear before the judge again in September.
Meanwhile, the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base continues to
stockpile wea pons of mass destruction and train NATO pilots in
the deployment of depleted uranium weaponry in anticipation of
the Pentagon's current adventure in the Balkans.
