Editorial: Oct. 12--be there!

  • No doubts. No confusion.
  • And no excuses.
  • Washington. Oct. 12. Be there. Join thousands from around the country in a crucial march to demand full rights for all immigrants.

Be there. It's the responsibility of all progressives, all trade unionists, all anti-racists.

Be there to take a stand against the foul anti-immigrant campaign being waged by Democrats and Republicans alike. Be there to send a message to Clinton and Dole, Pete Wilson and Newt Gingrich, the Immigration and Naturalization Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The message: We the workers and oppressed stand united. We recognize no borders in our struggle. You shall not divide us. And you will not succeed in your drive to scapegoat super-exploited immigrant workers for the failures of your system.

The Oct. 12 march, called by Coordinadora `96 and endorsed by a wide range of groups, is right on time. Congress just passed a vicious anti-immigrant bill. Clinton is set to sign it. With its attacks on both documented and undocumented immigrants, the new law is another tool for the bosses in their war on the working class.

Fight back. Workers of every nationality. Together. Oct. 12. Washington. We'll be there.
