Wwp Presidential Candidate Pledges Solidarity

Workers World Party presidential candidate Monica Moorehead issued a statement of solidarity with the building workers' strike on Jan. 26. She said the building maintenance workers "have taken their place at the forefront of the fight against capitalist exploitation.

"It is these workers, along with their sisters and brothers in hospitals, factories and offices around the country, who will lead the labor movement's fight against union-busting attacks."

Moorehead said she and vice-presidential candidate Gloria La Riva are running because "working people need their own political party that will represent their class interests, rather than relying on the Democrats and Republicans who represent the boss class--the very ones trying to drive down wages and bust unions."

Moorehead and La Riva--two women, one African American and the other Latina--are themselves representative of the new face of the labor movement. They stand far apart from the big-business politicians.

Moorehead said: "No Democratic or Republican politicians have spoken out on behalf of this important strike. But Workers World Party stands side by side with the 32B-32J workers in their battle. We join them on the picket lines ...

"We also stand for a world where exploitation and oppression are liquidated. We know true justice will only exist when we build a world where people come before profits, where workers are in control instead of bosses--a socialist world.

"No two-tier wage system! Police and courts, hands off strikers and their union! Ban bosses from hiring strike breakers!

"Jobs for all at a living wage with full benefits and union rights!"
