OAKLAND, CALIF.

Solidarity with Palestine

Published Mar 22, 2012 8:11 PM

Occupy Oakland held a rally, march and community forum on March 13, the third anniversary of Tristan Anderson’s critical injury at the hands of Israeli border police in the West Bank village of Nil’in. Anderson is a long-time Oakland activist who was hit in the head by a high-velocity tear gas grenade fired by Israeli troops. The injury left him paralyzed on his left side. His parents are pursuing a civil suit in Israel against the Israeli military, who have denied responsibility for his injuries.

Some 50 people braved pouring rain to attend the rally in solidarity with Anderson and Palestine. Later a panel discussion and feast, attended by about 100 people, was held at the Islamic Cultural Center of Northern California. Speakers included a Palestinian youth from the town of Nil’lin where Tristan was wounded. Speakers expressed solidarity with Palestine and anger at the recent attacks in Gaza.
