Protesters demand ‘Free Leonard Peltier’

Published Feb 8, 2012 7:49 PM

A strong, well-attended demonstration demanding immediate, unconditional freedom for Native-American activist and political prisoner Leonard Peltier was held on Feb. 4 in Buffalo, N.Y., at the Federal Courthouse on Niagara Square. The event was coordinated by the local chapter of the Leonard Peltier Defense Offense Committee in support of similar demonstrations held around the world to mark the 36 years that Leonard Peltier has been imprisoned in the United States. Peltier was wrongfully convicted of the 1975 shooting deaths of two FBI agents at Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. Michael Kuzma, a Buffalo attorney and lawyer for Leonard Peltier, spoke on the series of crimes committed by the prosecutors, the courts and the FBI in framing Peltier and preventing his release.
