U.N. troops spread cholera in Haiti

Published Aug 24, 2011 1:52 PM

The United Nations Mission to Stabilize Haiti, also known as Minustah, has shown its complete disdain and lack of respect for the people of Haiti by dumping raw sewage containing fecal matter in the Guayamouc River east of Hinche, near the Dominican Republic border. (Ronel Odatte in AlterPress, Aug. 9) It is also dumping in areas in Port-Salut, where the local community is trying to develop tourist facilities. (Haïti-Liberté, Aug. 17)

This is a recipe for spreading cholera.

The U.N. introduced cholera to Haiti last year, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control. So far over 7,000 Haitians have died from this disease and over 300,000 have been sickened.

Haiti now has galloping unemployment, hundreds of thousands of people still living in rickety shacks and tents after the earthquake more than 18 months ago, and no schools or teachers for 500,000 students this coming fall.

But Minustah has spent billions of dollars maintaining the peace and stability the U.S. needs to exploit and dominate Haiti economically and militarily after the coup that overthrew President Jean-Bertrand Aristide in 2004.
