FLOC & UAW target Chase

Since the Farm Labor Organizing Committee and the United Auto Workers
coalesced at the 2010 U.S. Social Forum, they’ve spearheaded a campaign
against JPMorgan Chase to demand justice for North Carolina farmworkers and a
national moratorium on foreclosures. On March 18 they coordinated protests at
200 Chase banks all over the U.S.
At Chase’s Park Avenue headquarters in New York City, several hundred
protesters chanted, “Predatory lenders, lock up the offenders!”
between talks by representatives of the UAW, the Communication Workers, Service
Employees union Local 32BJ and community allies. Vanessa Fluker, a lawyer
leading the fight against foreclosures in the Detroit courts, described how the
banks are making huge sums by forcing people out of their homes.
A flyer announced an emergency fundraiser for Fluker, who was recently
sanctioned and fined $12,200 by Judge Robert Colombo, who said the
attorney’s argument for allowing her client to remain in her home in a
foreclosure case was “frivolous.” Fluker is a well-known and
respected advocate for homeowners and renters in their struggles against the
predatory banks. She is appealing the sanctions award but needs funds for an
appeal bond of approximately $18,000 in order to stay proceedings pending the
appeal. Send donations to Vanessa G. Fluker, Esq., PLLC/Appeal Fund, 2920 E.
