International Women’s Day was celebrated in Boston on March 19 under
the banner, “Women Worldwide Are Rising Up!” The forum was
sponsored by Workers World Party; Fight Imperialism, Stand Together (FIST); the
Women’s Fightback Network; and Sista Ciphers. Representatives from the
Student Immigration Movement and Survivors Inc. attended, along with
delegations from Fanmi Lavalas of Haiti and St. Martin De Porres church. The
photo shows members of the church who are actively organizing in the Cape
Verdean community.
Women spoke from the heart on a wide scope of topics, such as the fight for
in-state tuition for undocumented students, the struggle of young women under
capitalism, the fight for equal and quality education, the impact of the
economic crisis, Haiti and the return of Aristide, the crisis in Japan, the
U.S. bombing of Libya, the uprising in Wisconsin and the history of
International Women’s Day.
