Opposing SB 1070

Tucson, Ariz., activists plan month of resistance

Published Jun 30, 2010 4:47 PM

A coalition of Tucson activists and organizations has called for a month of resistance to the implementation of the racist SB 1070 law, which goes into effect on July 29. The coalition, representing community and political organizations, labor unions, student organizations and churches, has issued the statement “¡Ya Basta/Enough! Our Communities Are Uniting in Resistance!” Their plans call for escalating mobilizations over the next month, culminating with a major demonstration in Tucson on July 29.

July 29 will be a day of resistance throughout the state, including a demonstration in Phoenix and actions in smaller cities.

As migrant deaths continue to rise, more troops are sent to the border, and public education is decimated by draconian budget cuts, it is urgent that this fightback is launched and spreads as far and wide as possible. Anyone interested in working on the July resistance activities should contact [email protected] or [email protected].
