Detroit: ‘Jobs, yes! Banks, no!’

Published Jul 2, 2010 8:09 AM

On June 23 more than 800 demonstrators gathered at the Michigan Labor Legacy Monument at Hart Plaza in Detroit for a rally demanding jobs and denouncing the role of the banks in destroying the lives of working people. Organized by AFSCME, other Detroit unions and Jobs with Justice, demonstrators marched to the Detroit City County building, circling the building in a massive picket while demanding no more city layoffs, no more cuts in city services, and an end to the raid on the city workers’ pension funds. Marchers then proceeded to the Bank of America to demand a bailout of the people and a return of the money taken from the workers.
