Florida protest: ‘No war’
Published Apr 4, 2009 9:14 AM
More than 150 protesters marched in Melbourne, Fla., on March 28 to demand
an end to war and occupation from Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan to Palestine.
The demonstration focused on militarism’s destructive impact on the
workers and oppressed at home, such as budget cuts in education and other
social programs, degradation of the environment, and restrictions on civil
liberties and human rights. The action, initiated by a group called Patriots
for Peace and endorsed by dozens of organizations across the state, drew
participants from cities large and small, including Miami, Jacksonville,
Alachua and Palm Bay. The next mobilization for these activists is May Day in
Miami.
