SAN FRANCISCO

‘’Fight police brutality’

Published Oct 25, 2006 1:04 AM

Family members of victims of police abuse led the San Francisco action marking the 11th Annual National Day of Protest to Stop Police Brutality, Repression and the Criminalization of a Generation on Oct. 22. Similar protests took place in other U.S. cities.

A spirited march wound its way from the edge of Golden Gate Park to Jefferson Park to commemorate “the stolen lives” of poor and oppressed young people predominantly from the African American, Latin@ and Native American communities. Speaker after speaker denounced the police for killing their loved ones. Many family members have become leaders of this movement. From left to right are Mirna Ayala, mother of Julio Ayala, Mesha Monge-Irizarry, mother of Asa Sullivan, and Danny Garcia, brother of Mark Garcia, all shot and killed by members of the San Francisco Police Department.
